Information about applying decorative plaster

How to calculate the amount of plaster

To determine the necessary quantity of decorative plaster, proceed as follows: multiply the height of each wall by its width and you will obtain the surface in square meters. Then check on the product label what surface the content of one bucket covers. It is recommended to buy more plaster than you need to make sure it will be enough, but also for possible final adjustments.

Decorative plasters have a long lifespan, but also high resistance to difficult environmental conditions.

Application requirements

Even if you choose a quality paint, the final result may be compromised if the requirements on the product label are not followed. Broadly speaking, the following must be taken into account: proper preparation of the surfaces on which you are going to apply the decorative plaster, compliance with the recommendations regarding climate conditions when applying it, as well as the preparation of the decorative plaster as a product.

Applying decorative plaster

The surfaces on which decorative plaster is applied must be resistant, dust-free, clean, dry and degreased. Concrete and new plasters must be left for at least 4 weeks for drying or curing, otherwise there is a risk that the alkalinity of the cement in the plaster composition will destroy the structure of the plaster, as well as the pigments.

Previous coatings that show peeling or improper adhesion are repaired, leveled with a putty mass, then primed. The areas repaired by replastering are left to dry for at least 3 days, are sanded, dusted off and primed.

The application procedure includes the following stages: spreading, leveling and modeling. The spreading is done with a stainless steel trowel (over an area of a few square meters), and afterwards the excess material is removed and the layer is leveled for modeling.

When the plaster no longer sticks to the trowel, the modeling (structuring) stage follows. With a float made of plastic material, held in a vertical plane, the desired pattern can be structured.
